MV&P Track Plan

MVP Upper Level

MVP Lower Level

The room is 38 feet long, which includes an approx. 3 ft deep closet at the right end. The widest part of the room is 19 ft. wide, with the majority of the room being 12 ft. wide.

The layout is 2 levels high, with about 12 inches separation. This creates a grade between the 2 levels that ranges from 3.5 to 4%. The grade is a little steeper than I would like, but a helix would have wasted too much space. The grade allows for helper locomotive activity, which adds to operating interest. A siding was installed near the base of the grade for stationing of the helper locomotives.

It is a point-to-point layout, with staging yards on each level. The lower staging yard represents St. Louis, and the upper yard, Kansas City, Missouri. Thus, trains traveling from the lower to the upper deck are westbound, while trains moving upper to lower deck are eastbound. A reverse loop on the lower level allows trains to be turned. The Frisco line branches off at Pacific, MO and terminates (on the layout) at Newburg, MO. The real Newburg has a wye for turning trains; Newburg on the layout has a turntable and roundhouse because of space constraints.

June 2008 EXPANSION

The upper yard (Kansas City) has been expanded, forming a loop that allows for continuous running. Click here for more information.
